PIK recommends the suspension of four KP officers related with the homicide and suicide case in Gjilan.

After
reporting the incident in Gjilan where a police officer was allegedly involved,
Police Inspectorate of Kosovo respectively PIK investigators arrived at the
crime scene in ” Bujanina ” neighborhood.
PIK
investigative teams in coordination with the State Prosecutor’s Office and KP
officials have taken investigative action for the case with tragic
consequences.
Based
on these investigative actions and after consultations with the Basic
Prosecution in Gjilan, Police Inspectorate of Kosovo after gathering
information and preliminary investigation at the Gjilani Police Station, today
recommended to Kosovo Police the suspension of four KP officers regarding the
case.
The
recommendation to suspend these officers (police station commander, deputy
police commander, police station chief of staff and a civilian staff officer)
was made in the interest of the investigation and they are being investigated
by PIK on suspicion that they committed the offense “Abuse of official position
or authority”.
Further investigative actions will be continued by PIK investigators in
ongoing consultation with the responsible prosecutor.

Police
Inspectorate of Kosovo received information through operational
activities that two suspects (police officers in Directorate of economic crimes
and corruption)may be involved in some unlawful activities.
Based
on this information, PIK investigators in coordination with the competent
prosecutor began to undertake investigative/operational actions including
covert investigative measures against two police officers and one citizen.
Based
on the gathered evidence and based in the Prishtina basic court order, last
night was realized the operation code-named “Bribery” which resulted
with the arrest of a police officer and a citizen.
The
police officer with the initials L.O (Directorate for Investigation of Economic
Crimes and Corruption) was arrested by PIK investigators on suspicion that he
committed offense of “Bribery” and “Abuse of official
position or authority”.
The
operation “Bribery” has continued with the raid of two
different locations (one in Prishtina and the other in Vushtrria) where have
been found necessary evidences to arrest other suspect – police officer
with initials L.M (sergeant in the Directorate for Investigation of Economic
Crimes and Corruption).
The
police sergeant was arrested under suspicions of committing offenses such as
“Bribery”, “Abuse of official position or authority” and
“Unauthorized ownership control or possession of weapon”.The
detainees in this case with the decision of public prosecutor has been
signed the detention measure for 48 hours. Further investigative actions in
this case will be continued by PIK investigators in ongoing consultation with
the responsible prosecutor.

PIK Chief Executive Officer Mrs.Miradije Kelmendi, visited today Kosovo Special Prosecution, were she was hosted by Chief Prosucotor Mr.Blerim Isufaj. Mrs.Kelmendi congradulated him on his appointment and for the good cooperation between the two institutions.
During the meeting was concluded that the two instutions have good cooperation in the investigation of cases of organized crime and corruption. The interlocutors agreed for the continual cooperation for the increase of eficiency and the profesional investigations.
Chief Prosecutor thanked Chief Executive Officer for the visit and expressed his good will for further support for PIK in the achievement of its objectives toward strengthening the rule of the law in Kosovo.

Chief Executive Officer hosted the OSCE Director of Department for Public
Security in Kosovo Mr. Edward Anderson.
During
the meeting was presented the Strategic Development Plan and was discussed for
the continual support of OSCE for PIK.
PIK
CEO Mrs. Miradije Kelmendi in her occasional speech thanked OSCE for the
continual support for PIK by mentioning some of the fields where PIK is
supported in the last year: The evidence room, specialized trainings in the
fight against corruption, study visits, different workshops, drafting and the
review of PIK Strategic Plan and the field of strengthening integrity within
police.
Director of the Department of Public Safety – Mr. Edward Anderson expressed the willingness of the OSCE Mission to provide ongoing support in specialized trainings for PIK officials that will help in the strengthening of the PIK’s capacity to effectively exercise its oversight role over the police.

Investigators of
Police Inspectorate of Kosovo have received information that a police officer
of North Mitrovica Directorate was involved in an unlawful activity.
Based on the received information, the suspect (police officer with initials
D.K) requested a considerable amount of money (25,000 euros) from a citizen to
transfer some factory equipment from the municipality of Zvecan to
Gracanica.
PIK Investigators
have started investigative actions that involved gathering additional
information in full coordination with the Basic Prosecution in Mitrovica.
PIK investigators
have started a criminal investigation on suspicion that the police officer has
committed criminal offenses “Abuse of official position or authority”
and “Bribery”.
Pursuant to the
Code of the Criminal Procedure, PIK investigators obtained the warrant for
covert measures from the Basic Court of Mitrovica, including the covert
investigation measures, namely the stimulation of the criminal offense.
This order was implemented today by PIK investigators who were assisted
by specialized units of the Kosovo Police and resulted in the arrest of suspect
– Police Officer D.K (Kosovo Police member in the Rapid Reaction Unit –
Regional Directorate-North).During
the arrest were found 12.500 euros which he allegedly received from the
complainant / the victim. The arrested suspect by decision of prosecutor has
been given a 48-hour detention measure.
