PIK published the inspection report for "Management of investigation and detection of crime"

Police Inspectorate of Kosovo, respectively the Department of Inspections has published today the report of the regular inspection in the field "Management of investigation and detection of crime".
Based on the Annual Regular Inspection Plan (2021) a regular inspection has been initiated to assess police performance in managing crime investigation and detection. The inspection focused on all investigation sectors of Category A police stations. The initiation of the inspection was also influenced by the need to assess the commitment and seriousness of the investigative units in reducing crime, in terms of strengthening the rule of law. The inspection provided an opportunity to assess the accountability and professionalism of the investigative structure in the treatment of cases during investigation procedure.
The focus of the inspection was the assessment of the organization in the investigative sectors, the investigative capacities, the performance in the investigation and detection of crime, as well as treating the evidence. Findings of this inspection are of interest to investigative officers of police stations at the local level, as well as the supervisory and decision-making level.
PIK in the framework of the inspection report has given 13 recommendations to the Kosovo Police regarding the greater involvement of investigators in the basic course of crime investigation, capacity building of investigative sectors, exercising a more effective oversight in dealing with criminal cases, fulfillment of obligations to the parties regarding their rights, raising the level of supervision regarding the administration of evidence, raising security conditions in evidence rooms, etc.
